Caledonian Road

View from a no. 91 bus from Crouch End to Trafalgar Square, crossing Caledonian Road bridge over the Regent's Canal, just north of King's Cross, looking east towards the 960 yards long Islington Tunnel, at 09.46 on Monday, 22nd April 2024. The canal opened in 1820 to link the Grand Junction Canal at Paddington with the Thames at Limehouse and was almost drained for conversion into a railway later in the 19th Century. Both were amalgamated as the Grand Union Canal in 1929 but the Regent's Canal section is still known colloquially by its original title.
