This junction was immediately south of Newsham station. It opened in 1850 when the 1846 Blyth Extension (Seghill Railway) was met by the Bedlington Private Railway (Bedlington Coal Company).

This was a three platform junction station, with two platforms on the line from Newcastle northwards to Bedlington (opened 1850) and one, on the east side, for the Blyth branch (1846).
