These sidings were on the west side of the line south of Cowdenbeath station and north of Cowdenbeath South Junction on the Kelty to Cowdenbeath (North British Railway). this line had opened in 1890 as part of the improvements associated with the opening of the Forth Bridge. The junction gave access to Mossbeath Colliery from the south. The colliery was to the west.

This is a two platform station. The main station building, a modern structure, is on the up platform. The station features a lattice footbridge. The signal box, opened in 1901, was at the south end of the southbound platform.

This junction was north of Cowdenbeath station. It was formed between the Kelty to Cowdenbeath (North British Railway) of 1890, (part of the improvements made for the Edinburgh-Perth route before the opening of the forth Bridge), and the Cowdenbeath North Junction to Lumphinnans Central Junction (North British Railway) link of 1900.

The single track Kinross-shire Railway opened here in 1860, a line from Lumphinnans Central Junction to Kinross. The junction was formed in 1890 when Kelty to Cowdenbeath (North British Railway) as part of the preparations for the opening of the Forth Bridge.
