Alloway Tunnel

The refurbished Alloway Tunnel, recently cleaned up, re-lit, resurfaced and reopened as a cycle path see image 25400. View into the tunnel looking back from the Doon Viaduct on 6 February 2010. The old telegraph wire insulator arms can still be seen on the wall to the left, together with a new plaque marking the site of the well (beyond the fence) Whare Mungo's mither hang'd hersel' in Tam O'Shanter.
