Grimesthorpe Shed

An almost new EE Type 1 stands alongside a not-so-new Stanier 8F at Grimesthorpe shed, Sheffield, in the spring of 1961. The shed, then coded 41B, had only a short time left, with official closure coming in September of that year (although it continued in use as a stabling point for a time pending completion of the new 'super-shed' at Tinsley). Grimesthorpe shed was eventually demolished in 1963. In the background stand the chimneys of the Cammell Laird Grimesthorpe Steel & Ordnance Works, closed in the 1980s.
