Pointhouse Tram Depot

Two extracts from large scale maps of Port Bannatyne on the Isle of Bute. The first, from 1896, shows what was then the Horse Tram Depot with a simple two road layout and a single line with loop outside on the main road. Alongside is a 1919 map, by which time the tramway had been electrified, double tracked and extended to Ettrick Bay. The fleet of 20 tramcars required a much bigger depot and this is clearly shown on the map. Although the tramway closed in 1936 the depot survives to this day as the island's bus garage See image 32885.
