Glenesk Viaduct

The Edinburgh & Dalkeith Railway's Glenesk Viaduct, viewed from the west in February 2014. The 1830 single arch spanning the North Esk was in the process of being prepared to carry the Borders Railway, which opened the following year. The structure in the right background is part of a former water tower dating from 1879. The octagonal tower, which stands on Dalkeith's Cemetery Road, was converted to a dwelling house in the 1980s and later adapted to incorporate a restaurant.
