Beckton: DLR unit no. 36 at Beckton, the far eastern terminus of the network, waiting to depart for Tower Gateway, at 15.11 on Tuesday, 14th January 2025.
Brockley Whins: Brockley Whins station, situated between Pelaw and Sunderland, photographed in October 2008. Renamed Boldon Colliery by the LNER in 1925 it reverted to its previous name in 1991 and from the end of March 2002 became part of the Tyne and Wear Metro. On the right of the shot, 66527 is coming off the branch from the Tyne Coal Terminal but my sloppy record keeping did not keep a note of the destination.
Appleby: A rather shiny and new-looking Northern 158754, passing through Appleby on Saturday 15th February 2025, working the 5E17 1034hrs Kilmarnock Bonnyton Depot to Neville Hill T&R.S.M.D. The unit had briefly visited Kilmarnock, presumably for some repair work, but was heading back to Leeds to return to service. An unusual sight of a non-stop DMU through Appleby where every passenger service calls at the platforms and ECS workings are rare.
Tweedmouth: Bridge EMC7/192 Northumberland Road A1167, or so the sign on the parapet says, but these two pedestrian tunnels under the East Coast main line at Tweedmouth are a little to the north of the A1167, just beyond the signal box. Perhaps that should be one pedestrian tunnel and one caravan store.
Ordsall Chord: A hurried mobile phone shot, from a Barrow to Manchester Airport train running a few minutes early and halted at Castlefield Junction, of 185144 and 108 on a Redcar Central to Manchester Airport service rounding the 2017 Ordsall Chord on 15th January 2025. The severed tracks in the foreground are on the former access to Manchester Liverpool Road, controversially blocked by this new stretch of line.
St Germans Viaduct: 55022 crossing St Germans viaduct with 1Z55, a Birmingham to Penzance excursion on 23rd June 2012. Class 55 Deltics never worked into Cornwall in BR days, so even now this was a fairly rare working.
Abercairny: View east over Abercairny station in 1995 showing the well cared for garden, platform and main station building.
Penrith: Trans Pennine Express Class 397002 EMU ex-Edinburgh 13.48 - Manchester Airport arriving at Penrith on 13th February 2025. These 5-car units were built by CAF in Spain and can achieve 125mph, but they do not tilt and are limited to 110mph on many stretches of the WCML..
