Description

This was an island platform junction station. It opened in 1856 when the Carlisle and Silloth Bay Railway and Dock line opened to Silloth, extending the Port Carlisle Dock and Railway line and leaving Port Carlisle and Glasson on a short branch.

The lines were single track, except for the loop round the station. There was a short siding to the west of the station, to the south of the junction itself and approached from the westbound loop line. There was a small station building. The signal box was located to the south of the station. It opened in 1894.

The Port Carlisle branch closed in 1932. The station closed in 1955, but the box remained in use. The Silloth line closed in 1964.

Little remains of the station today, except the trackbed. The station had been built on the route of the former Carlisle Canal, the remains of its embankments still remain to either side of the trackbed.
