Townhead EMU Sidings

Opened on the Ayr and Dalmellington Railway.

Description

On the west side of the line and south of Ayr station is Townhead depot, where the electric trains operating to Glasgow Central are stabled.

The sidings were originally a goods yard known as Beresford Lyes, the name making a distinction between this goods yard and other goods yards elsewhere in Ayr such as at the original terminus [Ayr [1st] ]].

On the east side of the line were the Ayr Cattle Market Sidings.

The original Townhead carriage sidings were on the west side of the station in the northern part of what is now the station car park.
