A rail mounted travelling crane with a grab travelled along Clyde Place Quay on the south bank of the River Clyde between Glasgow Bridge (to the east) and the George the Fifth Bridge (to the west). The crane could pass under Clyde Viaduct [Glasgow Central] [1st] (now removed) and the wider and later Clyde Viaduct [Glasgow Central] (still in place) on its west side.
For a time it was operated by the Crarae Granite Co Ltd.
The track remains embedded in cobbles.
