![An unidentified LMS 8F 2-8-0 shunting alongside the old G&KER platform at Garstang & Catterall station. This view looks north from the station footbridge with the Lancaster Canal visible to the left of the steam plume. The main goods yard was behind the camera but the Creamery alongside the Up line also used rail for many years. The line immediately to the left of the main running lines beyond the island platform was the old link to the Knott End branch, which also later formed a long Down goods loop for the main line. ![A Cravens DMU pulls away from Garstang and Catterall heading for Lancaster as alighting passengers head for the footbridge. Prior to 1930 there would have been a connection to the Knott End branch railmotor on the other side of the island platform. The main station building can be seen on the Up line. This splendid colour photo was probably taken in the late 1960s. The 1964 timetable shows four Up and five Down departures on weekdays with an extra mid-day service each way on Saturdays. ![The new infrastructure for colour light signalling can be seen as D431 approaches Garstang & Catterall on a service for Scotland. The cars are parked in the old goods yard, which is now occupied by a feeder station for the 25kv power supply. The signal box closed in November 1972 with the commissioning of Preston power box. ![Brush Type 4 47532 takes a Barrow-in-Furness to Crewe train south through the remains of Garstang & Catterall station on 11th October 1980. ![40028, formerly <I>Samaria</I>, heads south at Garstang & Catterall with the ICI soda ash tanks from Corkickle to Northwich on 11th October 1980. ![The impressive staircase at this house is the give away that it is the former station entrance. The house was once joined onto and is all that survives of a once large junction station that was swept away soon after closure in 1969. ![Double bridge. On the WCML, just north of the site of Garstang and Catterall, are two bridges. Each has an extra, single line, arch on the down side. These were for the Knott End line that ran parallel to the main line for nearly a mile before diverging to the west. This track also formed a long Down Goods loop. Both bridges were rebuilt for the 1974 electrification but thankfully the Knott End line arches were left intact. TPE 185136 passes the southerly bridge travelling north. ![<I>The Lancastrian</I> was scheduled to run on two consecutive Saturdays in February 2013, steam hauled over the Preston-Carnforth-Hellifield-Preston loop. Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48151 is seen here approaching Garstang on the first leg of the steam trip.
