Introduction

This waggonway ran from Ayr Harbour east to serve various pits sandwiched between the River Ayr and the Auchincruive area - the Whiteletts Colliery and Newton Colliery. Waggon Road still exists in Newton-on-Ayr, giving away the former line. There were some tight corners on this wagonway and so when replaced with a railway it followed a slightly different alignment.
