Comrie Railroad

Introduction

This private 7 1/4 inch 3/4 of a mile long single track railway was a loop located by the House of Ross, Comrie, Perthshire. The line curved and climbed its way through picturesque grounds with grassy areas, woods and by a pond, and with three lengthy trestle bridges. Sadly it closed on the 16th of March 2014 and has been dismantled.

Although private, it was open to the public on various occasions.

The original portion was begun in the 1970s by Prof Peter MB Walker. It was lengthened in the 1980s by former marine engineer Bob Smith.

There were several locomotives, but the finest was probably a 2-8-2 (no 483) based on the 3ft gauge 2-8-2 locomotives of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, Colorado.
