South Wales Railway taken over the line, removing a level crossing. Broad gauge link opened from Swansea Valley Junction, on the South Wales Railway, to Six Pit Junction and on as a mixed gauge to Swansea docks.

Extended from Glais to Pontardawe and opened to passengers. The station in Swansea was Swansea St Thomas.

Extended from Pontardawe to Ynisygeinon.
20/11/1861Swansea Vale Railway
Extended from Ynisygeinon to Ystalyfera.
01/01/1864Swansea Vale Railway
Extended from Ystalyfera to Brynamman for freight.
29/07/1864Swansea Vale and Neath and Brecon Junction Railway
Line incorporated to link Ynisygeinon Junction, on the Swansea Vale Railway to Colbren Junction, on the Neath and Brecon Railway. The Swansea Vale Railway was to have access over the whole line and then over the Neath and Brecon Railway to Brecon.

Brynamman opened to passengers.

Leased by the Midland Railway. This gave the Midland Railway access to Swansea via Brecon.

Bought by the Midland Railway.
