Today little remains to remind visitors of the great steelworks that once loomed over the town of Consett, high up in the western reaches of Co Durham. One item, a cauldron used to move molten metal, now stands on the trackbed just outside the town, where once 9Fs shattered the silence as they dragged iron ore hoppers up the gradient towards the steelworks from the import terminal at Tyne Dock. The former railway route is now part of the Waskerley Way.
