The site of Edinburgh's first railway terminus was at St Leonards on the south side of the city, reached by the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway in 1831. The photograph shows the former main road entrance to the site (which included extensive coal distribution facilities) the major part of which is now occupied by flats.
