The south portal of the 320m long, steeply graded, St Leonards Tunnel (1831), running under part of Holyrood Park and giving access to the former St Leonards terminus, photographed on 2 January 2008. The line carried passengers between 1832 and 1846. The young lady is probably making better time than many of the trains that once brought coal, destined for the home fires of Auld Reekie, up to what was, for many years, one of Edinburgh's major domestic coal distribution centres.
