View west at Stobs on 6 February 2008 over part of the site of the former Stobs Camp (1903-1959). The various remains dotted around the hillsides say little of the many thousands of men who passed through here over the years, including those on their way to fight in two world wars. In addition, Stobs also operated for a time as a PoW Camp. The area was rail served by a branch leaving the Waverley Route near Acreknowe Farm, north of Stobs Viaduct and, while few details are known due to the site being a militarily sensitive area for much of its life, Butts Directory lists a private station at Stobs Camp, although no opening or closing dates are given.
