The Watford Junction - St Albans Abbey line was about as basic as a line could get in the late 1970s. Shown is the St Albans terminus where the passenger facilities were really no more than a decaying brick wind break illuminated by a single light bulb. This photo was taken in September 1979 in the full expectation that the line could not survive much longer. Happily though, the Abbey Flyer still runs, thanks to a determined local support group.
