Saltburn

South entrance to the 1862 Stockton & Darlington station at Saltburn (originally Saltburn-by-Sea) in April 2008. After many years of dereliction the entrance to this once busy seaside resort station has been completely refurbished and the large area once occupied by the six platforms and various sidings now accommodates a mix of shops, offices and housing, with todays train services using a basic 2 platform terminus at the west end of the site. Off to the right of the picture, looking out to sea, stands the former Zetland Hotel, also built by the Stockton & Darlington (and originally served by a private platform running beyond the station see image 29478). The Zetland has now also been successfully refurbished (and converted into luxury flats).
