On the left is the view south from the A6106 at Melville Gate along the Waverley trackbed on 18 February. On the right is the view west from the same bridge with the trackbed in the foreground. Note the second arch further west. Looking over the parapet reveals a very wet solum with no sign of a water course. The National Library Maps website shows a long headshunt(?) from Glenesk Junction which diverged from the Waverley Route and terminated just beyond the bridge. Why? For what purpose? Is it an old E&D alignment? Appears on the 6 map of 1854 and 1894 but gone by 1905. Opinions welcome.
