A busy scene at the south end of Carlisle station in the early 1960s. Black 5 44973 has pulled up with a train at platform 3 alongside a DMU on the centre road [the DMU is displaying destination code 1L12]. Meantime, across at platform 4, Jubilee 4-6-0 45573 Newfoundland, prepares to leave with a train for the south, carrying code 1M97 chalked on its smokebox door.
