The line from Dunblane to Callander closed entirely on 1st November 1965, save for a stub to serve Springbank mill being retained at the Dunblane end. The stub was cut back further when the mill closed in the 1970s, leaving only a very short section of the original branch. However, this has not prevented the odd passenger train from making an attempt to reach Doune and Callander. Shown here is a Class 101 DMU that, in July 1986, has given this tough challenge its best shot.
