Scarborough

A morning Northern Rail service from Hull, formed by 158845, about to run past the camera towards the main platforms (3-5) accomodated within the trainshed at Scarborough station on 3 April 2008. This photograph, looking south away from the main station, shows part of the long and noteworthy platform 1 at Scarborough, a platform that has handled many an excursion train in its day. The platform has its own buildings in addition to those surrounding the main part of the station, as well as an impressive canopy standing over the central section of the platform with its own entrance/exit onto Westborough Road. Beyond the canopy, attached to the station wall, is what is claimed to be the longest railway station passenger bench in Europe. At 456 feet in length, this continuous bench has been known to accommodate a total of 228 average size bu.... err passengers...but not for some time.
