National Railway Museum York

Class EM2 27000 Electra on display at York Railfest in 2004. Seven of these locomotives were built at Gorton Works in 1953/4 to handle passenger services over the 1.5kV DC electrified Woodhead route (now closed) between Manchester London Road (now Piccadilly) and Sheffield Victoria (now demolished). The entire class was withdrawn in 1968 and sold to Dutch State Railways the following year. The last 6 examples ended their working lives in Holland in 1986.
