The bays (left) at the north end of Dumfries station in the early days of 1968. One of the type 2s regularly seen here during this period, including stabling at weekends (see image 3438), is standing at signals. The bays are now filled in and used for car parking, with freight workings such as those serving the former ICI factory at Cargenbridge and the old Dumfries South Yard a distant memory. At the top right of the picture is part of the lighthouse signal box, whose demolition so upset the late Derek Cross (see image 3568).
