The first of the A1s to be withdrawn was 60123 H A Ivatt, following the Offord collision on 7 September 1962. 60123 was hauling a Kings Cross-Ardsley freight when it ran into the rear of a second freight in the down loop at Offord near Huntingdon. The locomotive is seen at Doncaster on 7 October, shortly after being recovered from the accident site and prior to the commencement of cutting up. The Pacific had emerged new from the same works 13 years earlier.
