Hest Bank

The wind gauge on Hest Bank signal box was spinning furiously on a very blustery day as 144012 passed on a Morecambe to Leeds service. The gauge was installed when this exposed stretch of line was electrified. If wind speeds rise above a certain level the trains run slowly at caution to protect the overhead catenary. Behind the box the foreshore can be seen, the sands of Morecambe Bay at low tide and, in the distance, the Cumbrian coast near Kents Bank.
