4498 Sir Nigel Gresley on the eastern approach to Carlisle on 27 August 1967 with an RCTS Railtour from Leeds. The train is westbound on the Settle & Carlisle line at Durranhill with the remains of the old MR yard and shed nearest the camera and the sprawling Botchergate housing estate forming the backdrop. Just out of sight beyond the train and running in parallel with the S&C at this point is the Newcastle and Carlisle route. The two will meet at Petteril Bridge Junction, less than a mile to the west.
