B1 4-6-0 no 61349 takes an up train away from Tynehead station in April 1964. Access to the platforms is via a steep stairway on each side of the road bridge in the background, with the station building standing on the east side of the bridge. Out of sight to the right of the station building is the goods yard, the apparent climb up to which looks a little challenging! However, there is something of an optical illusion about this location as the steep climb is actually being tackled by the B1 on the main line. [With thanks to David Kerr]
