Despite many visits to Perth over the years I've never been so struck by how poor a job the Perth General Station Joint Committee did matching brickwork to the original stonework during the station's massive re-building of 1884-88. Note the obviously red bricks filling in the gaps under the marvellous glazed roof. This side of the building had been outside and was the entrance side. The area in front of the building (platforms 3 and 4) was originally the turning circle for carriages outside the station with the original station beyond the building (platforms 5, 6 and 7 and the old northbound bays).
