Ashton-in-Makerfield

The LCGB Makerfield Miner special calls at Ashton-in-Makerfield on a photostop in August 1968. The station had been closed to scheduled passenger services since 1952 although it continued to be used as late as 1975 to handle excursion traffic in connection with the nearby Haydock Park racecourse. This section of the line closed completely in 1991 and the station site has since been cleared and landscaped. The area now forms part of a business park.
