King George V Dock

The King George the 5th Dock was served by a branch of the Glasgow and Renfrew District Railway with a marshalling yard at Shieldhall. The yard and lines to the dock and Shieldhall were closed and lifted in early 1987 although the line running to Deanside Transit was retained. The rails in the cobbles here are laid out in typical Glasgow docks fashion with a rail on either side for the overhead crane and two tracks up the middle. This dock has had a major revival such that usually several ships arrive and depart every day now. Although the dock lines have not been brought back into use Deanside Transit remains open.
