An Inverness bound train approaches Orton from the east. With the slight uphill trains really move quickly here, one moment it was on the viaduct then it was by me. The photograph is taken from the trackbed of the original alignment of the Morayshire Railway line to Craigellachie (later renamed Dandaleith when it ceased to be a terminus). The section between Orton and Rothes was abandoned when a new route was opened from Rothes to Elgin. Despite being closed in 1866 the trackbed of the abandoned route is in remarkably good shape in places.
