The Severn and Wye Railway crossed the river Severn and ran through Lydney and Cinderford in the Forest of Dean to join the GWR at Lydbrook Junction on the river Wye. This bridge over the Severn between Sharpness and Lydney was brought down by a drifting boat in 1960. It was finally demolished in about 1967 - completed 1970 - this picture is from 1966. Immediately after the bridge closed, schoolchildren were ferried by rail through Gloucester each day for some months. The line in the foreground is the South Wales Railway.
