This railway was built to carry iron ore from the Brendon Hills (just east of Exmoor) to a harbour at Watchett. The ore was ferried across the Bristol Channel for the steelworks at Ebbw Vale.
Part of the railway was an 800 foot incline and this picture is the remains of the winding house at the summit - taken about 1965.
