Steep Holm is an island in the Bristol Channel off Weston-super-mare considered within North Somerset. During WWI it was fortified as a gun battery to protect shipping. A narrow-gauge railway was built to transport supplies from the quay to the top of the island. The tracks were still in place when I visited in 1983.
