You only have my word for this, but I did buy this ticket on South
Gyle's opening day, 9 May 1985 see image 19642. Unfortunately the previous customer must have bought an advance ticket, and the mechanical machines of the time didn't default to that day's date for a new sale. Unlike other station openings around this time there was no commemorative ticket, and not even - it would seem - a pre-printed ordinary ticket. I had to say South Gyle to the ticket clerk three times as if she had never heard of the place.
