When Aberdeen's platform 6 north was blocked during the reconstruction work in 1973 see image 20303, Inverness services departed from platform 8. Here a Swindon Cross Country set departs from 8 and takes the crossover to 9 in order to gain access to the single line to Dyce at Aberdeen North SB.
