These gas-axed girders used to support the coal screens. There are still 8 pairs of rails embedded in concrete here. The colliery closed in 1989; its site is now used for car boot sales. This probably doesn't explain the word IRAN painted on the concrete in the foreground. UPDATE 2017: this area is now used for storage of new Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles pending UK delivery.
