The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal was a ship canal built in the railway age. Most quaysides are served by rail (albeit buried under tarmac). The swing bridge seen here carries rails which fan out at the right hand side. The left hand side runs back to the connection to Berkley Road. View looks south with the River Severn both behind the camera and to its right.
