Waterloo Place [Tram]
Just along from the east end of Princes Street in Waterloo Place stands a set of traffic lights, seen here looking south across the busy road on 17 November 2009. I often wonder how many of those who cross here every day notice the cobbled rectangle, or, of those who do, how many put it down to some hangover from ancient road repairs...? It is in fact a memento of Edinburgh's original 'tram' system, or, to be more accurate, its cable-cars. See image 26668
