Sheringham

The Midland and Great Northern Joint station at Sheringham became a passenger terminus in 1964 but by 1966 the premises and associated level crossing were considered too expensive to maintain. The solution was to construct a smaller halt (opened in January 1967) on the Cromer side of the crossing, as shown here with a Norwich-bound service on May 2nd 1976. Many of the visible features were surviving items from the former station, including the signage, platform seats, lighting columns and, somewhat unexpectedly after nearly a decade as an unstaffed halt, the luggage handcart. The original station still operates, but now under the auspices of the North Norfolk Railway.
