Electronic train indicator boards were installed at Glasgow Central in the mid 1980s - this photograph shows the old manual system as it approached the end of its life in March 1985. Printed paper train notices were displayed in the windows, sometimes roughly cut and pasted, at other times replaced by hurriedly chalked notices that produced cricked necks in travellers attempting to decipher them. By 2009, the upper floor was in use as the Central Bar and the ticket office underneath had become an M&S Simply Food outlet.
