Stranraer Harbour Junction

Scene from the gantry crane at the former Stockton Haulage yard, Stranraer, in 2004 looking south west. The Stockton Haulage yard area has since been cleared of all rail-related equipment and sidings, but the connection remains in situ. The yard is still owned, and protected for possible future freight use, by Network Rail, as is the old Stranraer Town station rounding loop to the far left. The Town Yard is straight ahead, and the 'main line' is off to the right. [Stockton Haulage was the last regular freight user of the Stranraer line - after the demise of Speedlink in 1991, their weekly steel train from Tees-side survived for two years until the traffic (for Northern Ireland) switched to road haulage and the Heysham ferry.]
