Line up of 1970s NW motive power in the holding sidings at Rose Grove. Left to right are 5271, 5276, 325 and 5286 in this view from the island platform towards Accrington. The freight traffic that had kept the steam shed busy until 1968 was not to last much longer and these sidings, the 650 wagon capacity Up Yard, were then lifted. Note also the new concrete troughs in preparation for the 1972 resignalling.
