Weitra
Scene on the Waldviertelbahn in Lower Austria in October 1985, close to the then Czechoslovakian border, as 760mm gauge 0-8+4 no 399.03 (of 'Stutztender' construction on the Engerth principle) crosses the viaduct at Weitra with train 71445, the 10.12 freight from Gmuend to Gross Gerungs. In the event the train did not reach its destination as the loco failed at Langschlag. By this date the line was nominally dieselised (except for weekend passenger workings during the summer which reverted to steam as a tourist attraction) but a shortage of diesels on this and other Austrian State Railways n.g. lines meant that one freight diagram was often still steam worked.
