An Edinburgh bound train approaching St Germains level crossing on the ECML around 1980 with what, at first glance, looks like a rescue following a Deltic failure, but could equally well have been a convenient way of returning the 47 to Haymarket following a visit to Crewe works. The grimy, miserable-looking Deltic in this case is unidentified, in contrast with a smart 47701 St Andrew at the head of the procession and which appears fairly pleased with itself by comparison.
