Back in 1989 Auchinleck still retained its signalbox (switched out and windows boarded), goods yard (track in place) and station building. This view looks towards Kilmarnock. The closed branch to the Highhouse Colliery was to the left and behind the camera the former Muirkirk line struck off to the east. The Auchinleck signalbox here was opened in December of 1957 replacing Auchinleck (Station) signalbox at the Kilmarnock end of the station and Gilmilnscroft signalbox at the junction end of the station.
